Christ the Lord Out of Egypt-Anne Rice

Let me summarize my review of the book through my email to Ms. Anne Rice.

"My eyebrows raised when I saw your latest book featured in a magazine. The gothic Anne Rice I have known who produces books about Vampirism and witchcraft made and published a book about Christ? I thought to myself that there must be some blasphemy in it like the Da Vinci Code or maybe she needed to get good reviews, or maybe diverting from the Vampire and Witchy chronicles may give her more money than she needed. I was skeptical~ The reason I read your most ambitious book yet "Christ the Lord Out of Egypt".

I was astounded, dumbfounded the very least. I felt that Jesus’ Himself was telling His tale to me-in a personal manner. Sharing his story as a young boy. As young as His Divine and human eyes see it.

What was more heart leaping was your note at the end of the book. You have epitomized the Scripture in Matthew "Seek and you shall find, ask and it shall be given to you". Your research in Christ has lead you to many wonders that your soul has not even dared to imagine. You sought Him and you found Him. And you know that your lifetime is not enough to know all the answers to your questions but you are joyous in the quest to seek the "truth" nonetheless. Your notes made me cry not because I am the ever so "self-righteous" but you pierced my heart with so much joy. The fact is that God has pre-destined you and your aetheist husband no matter what your past. I know that in your heart, you know that your husband is safe and he is saved.

After closing the books’ final pages and even before coming to your website, I felt that there will be a sequel to this book. Stand firm in the faith, Ms. Anne. Be aware of the thoughts, of the whispers beside you in the night. I pray that the sequels to your book will be according to His will and not your own. You will be delving in the subject that most people even with the strongest faith has disputes to.

I pray for you Ms. Anne. God is with you."

My Love Affair with Books

Reading books is a personal experience. I used to think that reading are only for those who live boring lives. I was sorely mistaken. With that, I apologize.

What I love about reading is that it’s as if I am transported to a different place and time… Whether it be a battle on the Caribbean shores, or lazy afternoon strolls on the rolling hills of Ireland, reading actually makes my craving for wanderlust even greater. I immerse myself on the plot, the characters, the time and place of the story.

Reading is also a healthy(ier) option to get away from your own confusing world (if you have a vivid imagination, that is) without having the headaches from a hangover. Books actually have a way of teaching you about life before it unfolds itself.

Like a lover of music, I am open to all possibilities in books. Not just because hell, knowing the plots on the latest bestsellers make me sound (and look) smart. Reading actually makes me feel calm, composed… Peaceful. As a matter of fact. It has a way of tempering my fiery nature.

I strongly recommend reading (as an alternative to the alternative), no matter what genre-fiction, biography, classical, prose…. It’s food for the brain.

If You Could See Me Now-Cecelia Ahern

Ok let’s see… I’d rather write what was written at the back of the book… It says “ A lively and romantic novel about two lost souls who find each other in the most unexpected way. Everything in Elizabeth Egan’s life has its place. Order and precision keep life under control-and keep Elizabeth’s heart safe from the pain she has suffered in the past. Being a mother to her six-year-old nephew is a full time job for Elizabeth, and one that leaves little room for error-or fun. Until one day, when Ivan comes into their lives. The mysterious Ivan is everything that Elizabeth is not-carefree and always looking for adventure. Yet just when Elizabeth is starting to trust him, it turns out that Ivan isn’t at all who she thought he was…”

Sorry, not your typical love story. In fact, I would rather put it on the children’s book section. No wonder Walt Disney bought its movie rights.

Frankly, I like the writing styles of Cecilia Ahern. She likes to write bittersweet love stories rather than those fancy shmancy “I’m a Spice Girl” heroine with loads of money to shop. Love stories that have a kick of reality in it that may make you say “ouch, that hurts!…”

But the part in the story I liked most of all was when Luke and Elizabeth were chasing and catching dandelions one sunny afternoon on “Jinny Joe day” (Go figure).

I heard that Hugh Jackman will be starring in this movie… I don’t know if he will be Ivan or Benjamin. Oooohhhh. Again, I hope it will not be a disappointment as Disney kinda has a way of twisting the real story (like what they did with "Remembering The Titans"). In this case, the book.

Next read… Might be something more intense. Probably “Christ the Lord Out of Egypt” by Anne Rice. (no blasphemies I hope).
